Waterman Ripple 52 1/2V....colors Besides Red?

Here is a 52 1/2v in red ripple. Has anyone seen this model in olive, blue or rose ripple? I recall seeing these more uncommon ripple colors on 52v, and 94. What about these colors on other models such as 52, 54, 55, 5 ans 7?

The 52-1/2V was also made in Cardinal RHR, but not in any of the other ripple colors.

So, BHR, BCHR, woodgrain, Ripple and Cardinal for the 52-1/2V.

Unless there are weird prototypes running around (not all that unlikely,) there are no official blue-green, olive or rose ripple 52, 54, 55, 5 or 7.

Thanks Greg, that's what I thought. Reason I asked, I need a section and feed for a 52v in olive ripple. Someone advertised an olive ripple section and feed for a 52 1/2v. I bought it thinking must be an error, hoping it would fit my 52v. However, it really is as advertised, and way too small for the 52v.....I guess it is as you suggest, part of a prototype or special order. Go figure.

Thanks and regards, Don

I had forgotten to mention that there were ripple desk pens which were quite slim I know I've see olive ripple desk pens. That is almost certainly what the feed is from.

Thanks Greg, makes sense...I have now tried it on two different barrels, on a 52 1/2v and then a 52 1/2....in both cases the olive ripple section was just slightly too big for the barrel....still though, that must have been a very small desk pen.

Unfortunately almost all my pens are packed for a move or I could show some examples. These particular desk pens were long but very slim.

There were others that were thicker too, of course.

  • 1 month later...

The 52 1/2 V is a dandy little pen. I've managed to get my hands on the best part of a dozen...they can have really good nibs and they're a little undervalued by a market fixated on a certain Teutonic baseball bat.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
