The earlier customs duty, from the 2015 budget, for stationery items were 28.852% (source; going back years of the bills to search for it is too hectic; if this is information wrong, please mention below).

Seeing how no new information/change pertaining to this seems to be there in the 2016-17 budget finance bill, I guess the previous rates stand.

So the price for the U$D 12.5 bottles would be ₹1,148.

Taking the weight of the bottle to be ~100gm with the ~80gm (or 3 Oz) of ink, we get ~180 gm, for which the speed-post charge would be ₹52.

Thus bringing the total charge per bottle ~₹1,202.

I'm not sure where this is coming from, but I don't think you have factored in the PayPal charges and other variables.

For starters, let's assume that each bottle of ink that is bought is of 3oz variant and would cost only $12.5, Which would be around INR 900 after PayPal charges.

Attributing $2 shipping per bottle, we get per bottle cost as INR 1044.

I am assuming that the INR 52 is for intra India shipping. You haven't factored in the weight of the box and packing material. Also, cost of packing material since the person finally sending these to the intended recipients may not have the packing material in hand.

The end cost may come to what you said (INR 1202).

Anyway, I have some relatives coming over from USA in August, so I'll just ask them to pick up a few for me.

Even ₹1202 is worth a buy, you are luck that your relative are coming, get the bulletproof inks their are one of the best one to have.

What do you mean?

I provided the links and all.

I cited the sources, so that's EXACTLY where it is coming from.

Also, the Paypal charges aren't ₹60. Anyway, it' won't be much per head for a bulk order. But do tell if you've been charged more and on how much, so that we can estimate better. (Others do too).

But yeah, forgot the packing cost, which wouldn't be more than 15₹ anyway.

Also, the cost of speed-post doesn't increase substantially with weight, at most ₹25 extra. This too would be very less if many people order more than a bottle.

Here are the rates again, though a graded range; use the previous link for exact charge.

Alas.. it seems that Goulet has a policy of not shipping more than 10 bottles and 2 bottles of each colour, had a discussion with them over phone. Also had a talk with Goldspot, they are saying the shipping cost will be 200 USD, I don't know why they are quoting such high prices. I think it would be better to get it from either Singapore or Germany (as it is EU, I think we don't have to pay VAT).

Advices people.

I am in CANADA.. and is usually better for me to buy from EU than the US... No VAT and better shipping rates.

Check Wonderpens in Canada. I have no idea about their shipping charges, but doesn't hurt to check. Canadian dollar is weaker so that might help a little.

Maybe you can try Pure Pens in England as well but I would recommend ordering direct from Nathan. Maybe PM him via his Youtube channel.

Is this group buy still alive? did it happen?

If not or anyone wants to go for a second round, I would be interested for 2 bottles.

I am given to understand that Mr Pratap of Gama pens of Chennai is becoming the official distributor of Noodlers in India. It may be best to contact him.

Yes, it did happen. 2 rounds of 60 and 40 bottles each. There is not going to be a third round.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
