I've been through this thread twice today and it is so wonderful in all the images of MB's great craftsmanship and artistry. Thanks to all of you who so generously took the time to present pens many of us would never have the opportunity to see!

Thanks! I really like it, specially with all the meaning behind the design due to its homage to Watt.

I havent been lucky enough to ever see the Max Reinhardt 30 in person, but from your pictures and the way you describe the materials it seems exquisite!

A Green Striated 146 from Max Schrage. What a beauty....

Technically not an MB. But if you want even more stunning, find a photo of the 149s he made in the same material.

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

No :-))

The Michelangelo is much less delicate in appearance and style. (not for me)

Oh I totally didnt find it appealing as well. I meant applying the use of natural resources :)

Then you might like this one in tiger eye with relief structure. It is the Max Reinhardt from 2011 (edition of 20); more Max Reinhardt I don't have.

Nice to see all those great and rare Montblancs!

My favorites would still be vintage pens like the 128PL or the danish green marbled faceted pens.

Modern pens ... ? Maybe the Klee, Moonpearl, 888 Charlemagne,...

Cheers

Michael

Hi Zaddick,

I take it for a 100% MB. All originals components from de 50’, even the celluloid bar is original MB, used to produce it at that time. It was just “assembled” recently by Max.

The 149 from Max is gorgeous, but as it was never made by MB, this is the one that I don’t consider as a MB piece.

I think, with my technical interests, the Einstein skeleton attracts me, but the "regular" one would be sufficient if I could justify the cost of a NiB condition example. I love the gravity well under the clip.

  • 3 weeks later...

The red one is probably not a 220 but rather a 221 if it has two cap bands (upper narrow and lower wide at cap lip) or 321 if just one cap band. The 220 was the outlier in the line and had only one cap band (like the 3xx) but came in a brushed Makrolon finish.

Is the 221/321 nib design different from the 220, 1266?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
