Papermate Inkjoy Gel Pens - Best Pens Ever

Blue_Moon

Recommended Posts

I've discovered some of the best pens ever - the Papermate Inkjoy Gel Pens. They are fairly new on the market, and write as smooth as silk. They have either tied or beat my beloved Pilot G2s. Also, the ink dries very quickly on the paper. I didn't realize that a gel pen could write that smoothly. I'm liking them better than (gasp :yikes:) fountain pens!!

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

A friend used these in a letter to me recently. She was very impressed with them too, and I must admit they looked great on the paper.

Heretic!!! Actually, they are quite smooth, the inks are nice, I like that they have several shades of blue, and they are very nice commercial rollerballs.

I was going to buy some, but I have sooooo many Signo and Energel pens to use up that I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Unless they are better

Another pen to try! I recently went through a few of my pens and discovered to my surprise that I now like G-2s (I used to dislike them). I do quite like Jetstreams, but don't like the Energel I have. Probably my favourite is the Schneider Slider refill, which is more like a ballpoint than Schmidt.

I know a lot people on here get sniffy about non fountain pens, but for me it's fun to try yet more pens to write and sketch with.

I picked up a small blister pack of these yesterday for my girlfriend. She said they were the best gel pens yet. They do dry fast.

I will have to do a water test on them later if I find the time.

Hmm, I bought a pack of InkJoy mini (because that's all Cult Pens have in stock at the moment). I think they're the same refills as the normal InkJoy but in a smaller length.

If gel / hybrid pens have a range from liquid (more like rollerball) to oily (more like ballpoint), these InkJoy are more towards the ballpoint end. They're similar to the Schneider Slider pens, which is a good thing since they're my favourite. The G-2, Jetstream and Schmidt EasyFLOW 9000 feel more liquid to me.

My InkJoys seem to be a bit blobby and skippy (strangely, more so in the blue than the black), so I'll stick with the ultra-consistent Schneider Sliders.

Coincidentally I emailed Cultpens about Inkjoy pens yesterday. Cultpens say they don't stock the Gel pens & tell me they have no plans to do so. I think the 'minis' that they sell are the Ballpoints, not the Gel pens.

The inkjoy minis are NOT the gel pens. They are, as you believed, simply InkJoy ballpoint pens in a smaller size. The ball points are OK, I guess, for a ball point. The Gel Pens, however, are much more pleasant to use.

Oh right! No wonder I was disappointed in them. Thanks for letting me know!

I'll try again with a proper InkJoy once I can find one in a real shop.

They were selling individual InkJoy gel pens at my local Walgreens. I don't particularly care for the design, but when I held the pen it was very comfortable, more so than a Pilot G-2 or Uniball Signo 207. I'll probably pick up one just to try out.

I have to say these pens really surprised me. I picked up a 14 pack so I could get the slate blue, and have been enjoying all of the pens. I'm not sure how the rubber body will hold up over time, but the design has really grown on me, and they are so comfortable. The only improvement I can see is a sturdier clip, a problem I've had many times with the Papermate Sharpwriter. To me, nothing makes a pen look tackier than a broken clip.

They do dry faster than my G2 fines, but they write broader, more like a Pentel Energel 0.7. I think I'll grab a 2-pack of the 0.5 version in black off of Amazon.

Thanks for the heads up. It'll be interesting to see how these do with the "shelf test"... meaning, used for a bit, put away for a good many months, then brought out for use again to see if it has dried out or will continue to work A-OK. I really like the Pilot G2 and the refills last and last. I had one in a Rotring 600 rollerball that I'd lost track of for 3 years, to find the refill hardly suffered any evaporation and still worked fine without skipping (after a little bit of initial priming).

Anyone in the UK had any luck in finding some? Cult Pens online don't have them, nor do my local W H Smith and Rymans. Perhaps they're not out in the UK yet.

I bought the Inkjoy 100 and 525s a couple of years ago for work (I'm a teacher and these were on special offer). They are quite robust, but unfortunately they are not theft proof so they disappeared very quickly. They're on 3 for 2 again in the UK. I may have to replenish my stock.

Not seen them anywhere for sale in the UK. Cultpens tell me they have no plans to stock them :-(

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
