Greetings From South Korea

Hello everyone from South Korea!

I have been a guest reader for some time now and finally got around to creating an account.

My interest in fountain pens was sparked during my studies in France where I grew up and lived for 7 years. (So I can speak french if anyone out there has a hard time with English I can help - was an Interpreting soldier in the ROK Army)

Now I am back in my country in South Korea, and I am actually struggling with the small market. It makes it hard to procure certain fountain pens and other 'pen peripheral' items. (like blotting paper)

I own a Waterman Phileas/Fine nib and a Waterman Hemisphere/Fine nib (that actually turned into quite a medium nib)...

My first trip to Japan, Fukuoka 2 weeks ago really sparked the 'collector/accumulator' inside me as I got my hands on 2 Iroshizuku ink bottles and a Sailor 1991 for a very reasonable(domestic) price.

I also recently obtained a Pilot Falcon SF.

I am looking forward to being part of this community!

Hello:

I spent a year in Korea as a Medical officer many years ago...I developed friendships with several of my KATUSA soldiers and they took me home with them and showed me the beautiful country...As an American medical officer, I have very fond memories of the land and incredible hospitality of the people.

KATUSA! I originally wanted to enlist with the corps but took my chances as an interpreter in French as it was closer to my studies!

I still worked closely with the ROK US CFC as I was stationed at the Ministry of Defense!

Glad to have so much diversity(and familiarity) in this Fountain Pen Community!

Meethil,

Are you still in Korea, and have you found any interesting pen shops? The only one I have used online is blueblack.co.kr

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
