Kingdom Note is japanese shop that tempts westerners with their choice of Sailor inks grouped into series inspired by nature: Insects, Birds and fungi. Fungi series consists of five colors.

I've received samples of three of them so you can expect to see almost full line in coming days.

  1. Amanita Muscaria
  2. Entoloma Virescens
  3. Mycena Pura
  4. Stropharia Aeruginosa
  5. Tremetes Versicolor

Entoloma Virescens, commonly known as the Sky Blue mushroom, is a rare of mushroom with deep blue coloring.

Sailor interprets this color as, well, strange hue of blue. It's dirty blue turquoise maybe? The ink behaves well but I'm not really fond of the color.

Migo bought these when they were just launched.

I only like 4 inks from the kingdom note line:

1. Nipponia Nippon

2. Lilith Jay

3. Tanna Japonensis

4. Mandarin Duck.

Edit: the picture you posted is of jellyfish series which have been introduced a few weeks ago. crustaceans Series has crabs and prawns.

The dark blue of the fungi series is one of my top favorites. Most of the others are nice but not favorites.

I have the crustaceans (finally!) and really like the blue and the two browns of that series. Stopped by KN on Monday and the only color they had left of the new jellyfish series is the one you like.

I'm rather fond of Amanita muscaria (the orange red) in the fungi series. It's more saturated and smoother than Bung Box Omaezaki Sunset.

I've no experience with the crustaceans and the jellyfish (except the coconut crab brown) but judging from how pastel they are in the images I don't think I'll enjoy them.

Has anyone tried their crustaceans series? I've found some photos / scans on Kingdom Note shop site.

Chrysaora Helvola looks nice:

I have the Crustacean series but your picture is the later Jellyfish series. I have the former but don't like pure pastels for FP ink, so haven't bothered with the latter.

Vis, I doubt you'd like the Crustacean series, given your obvious colour preferences. I do, but then I've grown to love more quirky unusual colours. Have become bored with ink colours that are one-dimensional & am enjoying the charm of vintage, muted colours. Sailor is doing them very well - Herbin-style colours, which I like, without the Herbin feel & thinness that I dislike.

Based on the writing sample you sent me a while back, EV was too light for me, but that mix is to die for.

In the right pen with the right paper the ink sheens pink, which I guess explains the "pink gill" of the name, which I didn't know before reading the title of the thread.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
