Pretty Senior Lion King

Can anyone tell me about this brand, as in what it's actual name is? I am just going off what the eBay listing said. It's a great pen, but I would like to learn more about the brand.

EDIT: After a bit of searching on here, it's known as a Domain Lion, based on the company name on the nib.

They're cute, but save your money, you'd get more bang for your buck buying a Jinhao 599.

They're pretty too, and the quality is so much better.

I am not sure the choice is quite as clear cut as Zookie suggests.

I own several Lion Kings and even more Jinhao 599s. I have found the LK consistently good writers and always better than the much more variable 599s. One of the latter was clogged up so badly right out of the box that I threw it away. Another is on probation for the same offense. The LK is comfortable to hold while the 599 is very uncomfortable for me due mainly to the triangular section. Its sharp edges dig into my fingers. I use my 599s to test inks. They are fine to write a line or two, but if I need to write a whole page I would definitely prefer the LK.

I am not sure either pen is very well made. The LKs tend to split out at the open end of the barrel. One of mine got so bad that when I took the cap off the section and converter came off with it. I have now wrapped them all in clear tape. We will see how long that holds. I have had much less experience with the 599s which I purchased much more recently than the LKs, but I noticed that on one batch the black trim rims between the section and body would fall off whenever I removed the section. Others have reported breakage of the threaded part of the body.

A much better quality pen in the under $2US is the Baoer 801. I only have experience with the non-hooded nib flavor, but those are consistently good and made of metal. I have had about 15 for years now with no breakage or any problems at all. The one thing you might not like is that they are quite slender -- similar to a Parker Vector.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
