Mont Blanc Pen Legitimacy?

Hi All,

I know that this isn't a fountain pen but out of desperation I could not identify this Mont Blanc ballpoint pen. I received it as a parting gift from a friend of mine, and seeing the Mont Blanc logo I immediately called it into question. The pen has all of the parts to a real mont blanc pen, box, service book, legitimate refills and case. However the one thing that startled me is that it does not have a serial number in the service book, or on the pen itself.

I was hoping that someone could help me identify and check the legitimacy of the pen. As a pen enthusiast, it would be an insult to me if it was not, which may sound ungrateful but I wouldn't be very nice to receive a fake from a good friend of mine.

Below are some pictures of the pen (apologies for the quality).

Thank you.

Also, the star isn't centered, not the kind of oversight Montblanc would do. The engraving and plastic of the cap looks cheap. Most definitely a fake.

It is a fake and a bad fake of a MontBlanc at that. Sorry.

Most probably it is a el-cheapo Chinese fake.

Sorry but it's definitely a fake. Montblanc never made a pen that looks like this one. Maybe your friend didn't know?

Fake or not it's the thought that really counts IMHO. Not that I am advocating that counterfeit's are okay because IMO they are not. However, if it writes nicely why not use it and remember your friend when you do? As Chrissy said, maybe he didn't know when he purchased it. Again, the intent was noble even if the product is not.

Thanks all of the replies,

It is an okay pen, has good weight to it and actually contains legitimate Mont Blanc refills (most likely taken from an old pen that they had as it has some wear and tear).

Appreciate it

Lucas

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
