I would love to get a ream or two of Tome River paper but Nanami insist on using USPS Priority International which works out at around $70 for a $40 ream. :yikes:

It's actually more economic for me to order the 100 sheet packs and ship a couple at a time. In fact the last time I ordered 2 x 100 sheet packs I got them from Rakuten. If I had made the order up to a ream I would have saved about $30 compared to Nanami's pricing (including shipping).

A ream of 50 gsm paper weighs about 1.5 kg (1500 g) Japanese EMS shipping for items under 1.7 kg (1700 g) is US $37. Why then should I pay nearly twice as much for USPS? I've contacted Nanami about this in the past and received less than satisfactory answers. I understand they are based in the US, but they are still sourcing their stock directly from Japan. For what it is worth, USPS First Class will cost about $20 cheaper than Priority. For those of us on a budget $20 is a significant saving.

Although I agree the shipping is high, especially when the could use a Flat Rate Regional Rate box:

1-please try to order a ream of onion skin from Paper Mill Store, the shipping cost is similar.(although UPS)

2- the ream for sale cannot go at first class domestic rates. They top out at 15.9 ounces.

3-no one is forcing anyone to buy it. I did the math and the numbers work for me. If you have cheaper, go for it. Post your deals for people to see as well.

I am annoyed that they do not use regional rate boxes for domestic shipping and think the shipping was high, but I added other things to the purchase, so all in all it was a good deal for me.

I considered buying some earlier, when they still had cream in stock. However, in the end I decided against it because I have over 300 sheets left.

Just a follow up: received both the package today and a few hours later a refund for $5 from Nanami.

Original shipping charged was $24 for the Tomoe River and a set of bank paper stationery. $19 is completely reasonable for Priority of a well packaged, multi pound shipment sent Priority and received within the same week of order.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
