"I'm buying it for selling with a profit." and then you keep the pen as if you were Gollum and the pen was the One Ring.

This pen will DEFINITELY not sit in a drawer like the other pens.

I am done buying pens until ... (pick some future date mre tha a month away).

I need to try out every type of filling system.

I don't collect pens.

I don't collect inks.

I need more X color ink because i don't have exactly THAT shade. (pick your favorite color to insert for X)

I don't mind cleaning out vacumatic pens.

I need to try X pen in a different nib size.

I will NEVER buy a pen over $x in cost. That is ridiculous. (pick your ceiling)

I am only going to the pen show to buy one pen. (or just to look)

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

I will never spend $X for a pen.

I will never spend $2X for a pen.

I will never spend $4X for a pen.

I will never spend $... for a pen.

I'm running out of room in my third (48) pens zipper case. After I purchase the Fosfor pen, I am not buying another fountain pen EVER

Not exactly a lie, but.....

"I really like this new pen. It writes so well! I will probably use this pen for years, that is if nothing happens to it. Something might happen to it. In that case, I should probably buy a second as a spare. And in the unlikely event that something happens to that second one, like I leave it on a plane, it's probably not a bad idea to get a third one."

I'm only going to buy one more (pen, bottle or sample of ink, dip pen nib . . . )

I need to have at least one nib in each of the major sizes...... (EF, F, M, B, OB, stub/italic/CI, other)

Or I have to complete the set... I need the red and blue and copper (of Estie J's) as I already have green, gray and black..

"I'm going to write more."

I say as I write yet another entry in my journal about writing more, and about things other than writing more.

"I'm not going to buy that package set of 'X'."

What I really mean is I'm not going to buy it today. When I have the cash to spare on it. It will turn up in my collection.

"I'm not going to buy that."

Yes I am. Just not today.

"if I keep all these inked, I'm more likely to use them."

And I do. Scrawling lines on printer paper every few days to stop the nibs and feeds gumming up.

Some of these lies are very familiar. I'm not alone!

The most recurrent lie for me was (is?) "I'm done buying pens." Followed by the special dispensation clause, usually "except for one last Nakaya." We'll see if the main lie is true now that I've ordered my last Nakaya. *Crosses fingers*

In the past couple of years, I've bought very few pens, very, very few. If I acquire a new pen, it's usually through a trade, and "new" generally means "vintage," and usually it's because of an irresistible nib.

But I'm becoming more and more satisfied with having and using fewer pens. Only time will tell if that is a lie. Feels true for now.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
