Sailor Jentle Brown With Private Reserve Chocolat - What'dya Think?

Maurizio

I like Sailor Jentle brown, it flows really nicely. I'd like to boost its color saturation a bit. Do you think it is safe to mix some Private Reserve Choclat with some Sailor? What worries me is the chance of creating a precipitate that will clog up my nice pens.

Anyone already try mixing any PR with any Jentle ink?

I wouldn't recommend mixing those two. In general inks are neutral, except the Baystate line (from Noodlers) which is more acidic (lower ph) and the Japanese inks which are more basic (higher ph).

I would stick to mixing PR inks with PR inks and Japanese inks with Japanese inks.

Ok thanks Cyber6 for your knowledge. Glad I asked here first.

I know enough not to mix Baystate Blue with anything, but that's pretty much the extent of my ink knowledge. Didn't know about Noodler's being acidic or that Japanese inks were basic. For my own edification, what happens when you mix acid with base? Do you you get neutral plus precipitate or even sludge?

PS

Love Tornoto. Visited it a few times while in school in Buffalo. Remember that it was neat a cleaner and more well behaved than NYC while being just as cool and cosmopolitan.

Hope you mean Toronto..  ...

And just to be clear.. not ALL Noodlers, just the Baystate line that has a lower ph.

I will imagine that mixing lower ph and higher ph can be problematic. But my extent of chemistry knowledge finish there..

I love the color of Jentle Brown... but if I wanted to mix with something, I would add a drop of a dark green...

Oh gosh yes of course Toronto. What I get for posting after work and tired and not proofreading properly.

Well now, you've only made me curious. I have some Pelikan 4001 Green. Would addition of that to the Sailor make it a darker, richer brown or would it just look muddy and grey? Have you tried such a mixture?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
