A Few New Pens And Lots Of Design Confusion

Made a few pens the last couple days. Here they are in no certain order. I am really trying to work out this whole form and shape thing. I would love feedback on which ones you guys think represent an appealing design and shape. The last pen I made was uncle sam there and for his shape I literally tried to copy a Mont Blanc 149 from a picture I have (I can't actually afford one :) ). Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks for looking.

They are beautifully made pens, and I'm in no doubt your design concept would have a wide appeal. the one that stood out for me is your last picture, a simple design, and your choice of colors and economy of line gives it an elegant statement.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley pen

Sincerely yours,

Pickwick

Nicely made pens. I like the colour of the top one, but have to confess I'm not a lover of the cigar pen shape - that is a personal preference only, not a design comment as I know that many people love round ended pens.

Richard

I liked the ball clip, and if the last one's wide cap band were either absent or the same material/color as the finials, it would be my favorite.

I also liked the green, clipless one, but do think it just a little too bulky - I guess slightly smaller diameter would please me more...

But nice pens all of them!

Thank you for the feedback. I struggled with whether or not to add an additional color on the capband. Nearly everyone I have asked has agreed with you. I guess this means the next one will look a little more uniform :).

I am not fan of big steps between the barrel and the section but the material of the green one is atractive.

We seem to be a uniform bunch, after all... :)

It would have been helpful if you numbered the pens and had the open and closed photos right after another.

I really like the last pen shown, but the black cap band removes some of the attraction. It either should be the same colour as the finial, silver coloured metal, or not be there at all IMO. It is a really nice design, and I like the colours and combination, even though purple is usually not my thing at all.

I think a section without a step-down would make for a nice design choice as well :) I like the fact that your cap threads are on the barrel and not the section. Good, large sections too with a pleasant shape.

I do like the ball clip, and though not a fan of the colours (I'm more of a earthy tones person) I like the combination of the band in the very last picture.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
