Gorgeous! I really like the top one. How much does that one go for, if it isn't too gauche to ask?

More good work Shawn. I am looking forward to my pen next week.

The top pen, a Gibby, has pretty much all the bells and whistles - sterling rings and clip, custom gold nib and feed, and piston filler with ink window. It was really close to $1200 all said.

They are all quite lovely, however I think my favorite is the second one. I can't tell from my Tablet but the body looks round to square to round. What would the name of it be. I'm still new compared to most folks, but I've never seen material like that.

The grip appears embossed is it pretty smooth to hold while writing?

The last one would be my second choice.

Way to go Shawn, nice work.

Hi Aggie,

This one is round from top to bottom and nothing is embossed. Everything is smooth.

Thanks

Lovely as always.

What color are the dark parts of the last pen? It looks almost purple and I like it.

It's SEM Violet ripple ebonite.

Ebonite in PURPLE? :puddle:

Sigh. Looks as if I'm going have to embark on a major crime spree. Or win the lottery. Or something.... :wallbash:

That last pen is gorgeous, BTW.

Shawn is a show-off but it ain't bragging if you can back it up. He made a pen for my son that has been inked and in use from the moment he received it well over a year ago. I had Shawn replace the binde on my Pelikan 1000 - gorgeous.

And, Shawn gives back to his community through his scholarships.

We need more Shawns in this world!

Just one person's opinion.

Oh, no!! I'm in for it. I've already started asking specific questions. Uh oh!! I've only done one pen review since I've been a member, something tells me I might be doing another one before too long.

My favorite is the second pic, it is called the Orville. Uh oh, again.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
