Recommended Posts

I have officially caught the bug. I bought my first 149 last week and fell in love with how it writes so I ordered and just got today this 144 Bordeaux FP. It looks good to me but I've been fooled more times then I can count.

I'm green with envy - love the color!

That one is on my hit list for the pen show this November.

Congrats on your purchase. Its a great pen, but for me, I stick to the MB 149s. I find the large size much better for my hands.

BTW, you should also post these pics in the MontBlanc forum. :)

Looks fine to me, but I'm no Montblanc expert. Mine is that same model, same nib, feed, everything. The nib on mine is absolutely lovely.

I'm sorry I'm helping my friend remodel his house and have been busy and not near a computer. I'm replying from my phone so sorry for the short reply.

The color is sharp. I love it.

Thanks for the info. I'll make a post later this evening.

That's good to know.

I have a few of these MB 144s in bordeaux. It is one of my favorites, and it is pretty. The pen is genuine.

I like these better than the larger MBs. I have been using them for twenty to thirty years.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the set including the fountain pen, ballpoint pen, and mechanical pencil.

My fountain pen predates the serial number introduction and has Germany (not W Germany) on the clip. It also has a gold monotone nib (not two-tone). It has the same vertical feed as yours. Mine is from the 1970s.

Your serial number is the original block style lettering which was used in 1991 which is also when they dropped the W Germany and returned to just Germany. I've read they also used the two tone nib that year before switching to the 18k so everything on your pen adds up nicely. Very nice pen.

I bought the bordeaux and black 164 ballpoints to use with my 144s. In 1983 they were $44. I enjoyed having the ballpoint to go with the fountain pen, and used them about every work day.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
