Rohrer & Klingner Erka Rapid/ Filling Widgets

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if anyone of you has ever used Rohrer & Klingner's Erka Rapid, and which ink bottles does it fit, apart from the R&K ones it was originally designed for?

I love the filling widgets in Pilot and Sailor ink bottles and the Erka Rapid is a great and handy thingy to add to bottles which don't have any filling aid.

So, if you have measures of the Erka Rapid, or have tried to fit it into other brands' bottles, please share your success (and fail!) stories!

Also has anyone repurposed Pilot/ Sailor/ Platinum filling widgets un/succesfully to other brands' bottles?

For reference, if anyone doesn't know about the Erka Rapid, here's a link to the Writing Desk (no affiliation)

I received a pack yesterday. Based on one filling, I’d say it works well - quite similar to the Sailor widget.

A quick size test shows that it fits Hero, Omas and Pelikan bottles with varying degrees of snugness. I did not go so far as recapping and inverting said bottles, though.

I bought a pack a couple of months ago, though I have not yet had the opportunity to use them (soo many inks to go through…). But I can provide some accurate measurements of one:

Maximum width (over the lip): 26 mm.

Main width (the bit that goes into the bottle neck): 22 mm.

Height: 34 mm.

Bumping this thread cause I'd also like to find out more about this insert. I'm especially wondering if it would fit a Noodler's bottle.

I've seen the ink miser insert but it's $5 for one unit plus shipping.

The R&K is $11.95 for a pack of 3 with free shipping on Amazon.......................

Interesting gizmo... Might save me from making a mess with Stipula verde muschiato.

Where are these for sale? And does anyone know how they compare with the Ink Miser (either style)?

Thanks in advance.

I find this thread interesting. I have read on other thread many saying that they throw out the ones from Sailor bottles. I usually do too. My Sailor pens are too big to fill from them.

Thanks Noviho. I think I'm on the mailing list for both those places.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
