Sailor 105Th Anniversary Pens?

I've been thinking about it for a while and the thread on the 100th Anniversary Pilot pen remind me of it. Didn't want to hijack that thread so I'll ask it here and try to get a discussion going.

Has any members here heard of possibilities of special editions for Sailor 105th Anniversary this year? I thought for sure we'd hear something by now since the two 100th Anniversary models (Arita, and Shima Kuwa) were released in May of 2011. I check the Sailor Japan homepage almost every day but there has been zero news.

Along with that, I thought Sailor also does anniversary model for the Profit (aka 1911), they had models for the 25th and 30th, and this year also happens to be the 35th anniversary of the Profit. But, no news on that front either.

Personally, I'm hoping for another Realo in KOP size, since I missed out on the original 95th anniversary release. For Profit 35th, I'm not sure, I already have the 30th Anniversary in Briar.

What about you guys?

I've been wondering the same thing. News hasn't seem to have broken out yet so I thought I might have gotten the year wrong or something.

I personally would like to see a KOP equipped with a REALO system or Japanese eyedropper. I wouldn't be able to afford it either way, since I just bought a KOP recently, but any new filling system from Sailor would be a nice sight.

Well it appears the Sailor Japan homepage has finally updated its front page banners to reflect the 105th year. Their facebook and twitter accounts are also acknowledging. Announcement of anniversary pens soon?

From what I can decipher. Pen is layered ebonite blue & black swirls, five sided pen body.

like the shape & color but the metal part, and the lack of threads makes it a bit less apealing for me

but I still hope that they will make a regular edition inspired this with some warmer color a soft brown ebonite would be nice :puddle:

To me, it looks like it would be terribly uncomfortable to write with, because of the steep drop between barrel and section, along with the metal bit.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Hmm a LE pen of unlaquered ebonite for the same price as Pilot's new flagship pen and released around the same time. Who says Japanese companies abhore open competition?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
