Kyo-Iro Moonlight Of Higashiyama

One of the 5 Kyo-iro inks. They seem to be made by the same company as Kyonooto inks. They have the same style of packaging. Maybe it's two series from the same brand.
Moonlight of Higashiyama is a orange brown like Diamine Terracotta.

Box

Nice packaging.

This has so much appeal, in so many ways. Yet your ink splatter is truly the image that facilitates Ink Desire.

Definitely would be interested in this ink if it were readily available.

Not normally my color, but the shading is lovely. Thanks for the review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I like this one!!

Beside this, my favorite among Kyo-iro series is Cherry blossom of Keage(蹴上の桜襲)---I'm not a big fan of pink, but this pink is less eye-searing and forms a darker contour along the rim. Do try it out if you have a chance! 😀

Like I said earlier, these inks are more like herbin, low saturation and lubrication, but they are wet. This one isn't even wet.

I prefer Terracotta. This one is rather dry. Terracotta writes wetter and is more saturated.

Thanks for the heads up. Dry won't do, atleast for this color.

I've been to Higashimaya- lovely peaceful place. This company must be base in Kyoto. As others have said I too like the colour but looks a bit dry. Reminds me a bit of Ackerman's Garuda Rood, also quite dry.

Beautiful review as ever. So pretty. and the colours compliment each other perfectly.

(not pink though  )

Might I suggest to those looking for a Mont Blanc Leonardo Red Chalk pick up a bottle of this ? It looks mightily similar to me . . . B)

white_lotus, amazon.com sell it, free shipping too. :headsmack:

I suppose Red Chalk is more saturated? Also I hear that Red Chalk is rather dry too.

Not sure about being more saturated . . . what's left of mine in the Vac700 looks exactly the same as Moonlight of Higashiyama and yes it is also dry.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
