Hi PenBoutique,

This has been "Coming Soon" for quite some time - and it's still not released. At least we can finally see a picture of the pen, so that's some progress.

Since there were no pictures of the blue model yet, I Emailed Goulet Pens and asked about the furniture color. I was was told by customer service that Rachel said the clip is chrome, not gold-tone. But the picture you posted and the limited pictures that recently went-up on the Yafa/Conklin page look like the furniture is in-fact gold-tone. As of my post-date there are still no pictures on the Goulet Pens site, but they list the blue fountain pen [only] at $76 ea., $1 over the U.S. list price.

One big question is: Where is the full-size matching rollerball with screw-on cap? (The ballpoint is too small in my opinion.)

Is there any estimation as to when we may actually be able to buy this blue pen?

Thanks, David

Today the pictures went up on the Goulet Pens Web site for the Conklin All American in Lapis Blue.

In the Goulet pictures (which are newly shot, not stock), the clip is indeed chrome-tone, not gold. So Rachel was right after all! Of-course the pen shows Out-of-Stock as it is still not actually available for sale. Outside of TWSBI it is rare to see such a botched pen roll-out. The Delta Unica LE pens are possibly worse in terms of roll-out, but that's understandable given it is an Italian pen. After all - all things Italian are worth waiting for :)

The clip on the Conklin All American Lapis Blue is gold tone, as I personally have one of these fountain pens. It is a very beautiful pen, since there are shimmery bits that catch the light. I chose the medium nib, use Pilot Namiki Blue ink, and the pen glides across the paper like skates on ice. It is a pleasure to use!

I too have one, also with the medium nib. The clip is a faint gold. Next to other gold furniture, it looks chrome. But if viewed from the side, you can see that it has a faint gold hue. Not deep gold. Very attractive. And the color is deeper and more iridescent than photos will show. As the light dims, the pen seems to become atomic like it's about to start glowing. I was very very pleased with the steel nib at this price point. Very smooth and consistent, though it starts to get a little dry during long writing sessions, as though the feed is just able to keep up. No skipping or hard starting though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
