And well done, for this. Photobucket's sudden reverse turn and audaciously expensive demands have ruined many sites across the internet. Many of my posts on this forum (and others) were just a picture - or only made sense with a picture.

A family member recently asked me to try an abstract. I usually try to strip down my small drawings to reduce the amount of detail. But this seemed an interesting thought. It only exists as a printable file and is a strong steal from Elsworth Kelly, whose works I have enjoyed since freshman year.

I visited close relations in Palo Alto earlier this month including a visit to SFMOMA and the Magritte show. The two of them had just finished a side garden entered through a gate.

 

I wanted to do a remembrance in what passes for my 'style'. After tries that weren't working ... too literal, too twee, not enough energy ... I arrived at this pencil, ink, and printed-out piece. I wanted to make the point that it was a garden for the two of them.

I was with family in Boston and Stratton Mountain doing my little cartes d'visite.

Any way two views seemed worthy of working up with more time. So I just made some notes ...

 

 

 

The trees through the window were in the Stratton house. It had just snowed and the sun was strong wasand bright. The window was in great contrast to the wall. I really liked the opportunity. Back in Boston just sitting around, I really liked the composition of a stairwell landing (the house is from the 1890s.

 

I worked them up and was pleased with the results.

One of my best students ariived at 82,83?. His wife died and his daughters told him to take a college art class. R took painting and drawing and figure and watercolor for years and years. He taught the students to

Make portfolios. He went on field trips to Coney Island and the Freakshow. He attended art openings. He had his own art show. He only stopped coming to class in his late 90s so he could focus on his love of portraiture.
