Parker Duofold Nib Repair

I have two older Parker Duofold Sr. models. The nib is split up the top of one of them. Any suggestions for where to get repaired? Also, should it just be left alone to keep in original state?

Thanks in advance!

You have two domestic choices; nibs.com and gregminuskin.com

A Sr Duofold nib may be cost effective to repair, replacement nibs vary in price but 75 and up seems the norm now with price depending on year and nib style.

Thanks! I assume changing them out myself should not be a problem?

That depends. Have you removed/installed nibs of vintage pens previously?

I have not...Most of my pen are a little higher end and I send them in for nib exchange. The only nibs I've switched out are Lamy's for my teenage sons. The Parker with the issue is (I believe) a 1939.

In that case, I don't recommend trying to swap nibs yourself unless you gain some experience on pens you can afford to damage as the cost of learning the skill.

Removing a Lucky Curve feed (if you still have one) can pose some challenges. You must remove the feed from the rear and the nib from the front. If the rear of the feed is damaged you can cheat by going out the front in a more traditional manner.

Not a good system to start learning on if you have other options.

Can anyone recommend a repair center for this beautiful old Parker Duofuold?

I inked it this morning and it is writing great. Anyone think it's fine just to leave as is and not repair? Any chance it will get worse?

Nib looks to be cracked into to pieces. Doubt it can get any worse.

That's about as bad as it can get. I would imagine that if it extends under the section down to the tail of the nib, in which case you have a two piece nib. Only a matter of time before it quits IMO. I'll bet that when it come out you'll find that the crack started where the wheel overshot the hole in the nib, which is surprisingly common.

If you plan on using the pen much, you should be looking for a replacement nib.

Sorry...website is: http://www.ink-pen.com A fellow named Joel. I got his name from a Prof where my kids attend college.

Joel is a prince. I didn't know he did nib crack repair; did you specify that you want the nib welded back together?

I did not specify a nib crack repair, so I'll certainly check before shipping to him. I was only going off recommendation from a Proff who collects old Parkers and said Joel was the man for everything Parker.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
