No offense. Claudia, but you and I will have to agree to disagree on what constitutes the perfect green.

Personally, if they came up with something that looked like either azurite, sodalite, lapis lazuli or black opal, I'd be first in line.... Or something wild and crazy like picture jasper or snowflake jasper (although something that wacky is probably more in Nathan Tardif's line of "Hmmm, I wonder if...").

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

ETA: Well, that contest was fun to enter. Of course I just wasted half an hour playing around with colors. I tried mixing a blue black that was darker than what they've already got.

If you don't like olive green, look at the one for "Ruth -- Pittsburgh".... ;)

No offense taken, and honestly... we don't have to agree to anything. Color is a very personal thing, the best part is that not two people will ever like all the same things... Heck, we don't even see/perceive color in the same way.

I called it Citrine.

Should we infer that the 2017 ink is already defined?

In the german Penexchange forum a Pelikan admin stated that every new ink has to pass a lot of tests before going into production. So I suppose that they already have chosen the next colour.

Fair assumption.

It might possibly be Smokey Quartz. In which case my attempt for 2018 is already dead in the water. Ah, well.

The previous contest was held on 2014 to decide the 2015 ink. The winner was Jennifer from Germany and the color Amethyst.

Two years seems to much.

A dark brown? Well... not exactly my favourite colour, but if there is no red in it I might get it as well. Unfortunately I missed to buy the Amber. :(

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
