"conway Stewart America?" Hoax On Evil Bay?

There is a pen purported to be a Conway Stewart Model 100 made by the "new Conway Stewart America" company. The nib engraving and band are like nothing I have seen before. One of the photos has a brochure with a CS logo I have never seen before and a URL that is Mary Burke's old site. The pen looks like a Model 100 superficially. Supposedly is celluloid (not usual for CS). The gold rings and the cap jewel are not like the Model 100.

Here is the link to the offering: New listing CONWAY STEWART MODEL 100 BLUE CELLULOID NEW MODEL ** NEVER BEEN USED **REF

The seller is in Italy and has moderate numbers of sales with 100% positive ratings.

Google doesn't come up with any new American CS company. Anyone know anything about this?

David

The CS pictures look really great. But for those who know enough to question the item, I suggest a look at the bids on all the suppliers' items for auction. A surprising number seem to start with o...t 17 and there are two other repeaters on a lot of the items. I am 'just sayin' that in a bidding analysis like this, I would get out early and watch to see what happens You can always get back in.

I do not have an opinion on the rather attractive item itself, simply the observation on the bidders. Other more experienced ebay buyers may find this observation of no value.

As a matter of fact, I'd welcome feedback on my eye-balling technique. I need to learn more. The items i have been leery of have rarely been writing instruments and I have several sources whose vintage pens are always without question.

Well, the website for Conway Stewart America (as listed on the docs in the auction pics) was last updated in December 2014, so I think this is old merchandise.

I also have to add that the cap band on that pen is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. The 'Conway Stewart' looks like it was scratched on with a pin. ugh.

Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Very interesting and rather puzzling. When Conway Stewart went into liquidation their stock of pens and of parts was auctioned. There is a company in the UK - Bespoke British Pens - selling new Conway Stewart pens, using - I assume - a stock of parts bought at the auction and other materials. Their range includes the 100. This is their website: http://www.bespokebritishpens.co.uk

I think I found the answer (partially). This pen is based on Delta Journal. Maybe produced by (or just comissioned ) Delta Pens of Italy.

Look at the barrel, section or even the captive converter. They are the same. Other important fact is where the vendor is located. Italy. So I think this Pen is not related to present CS.

Cheers.

Luciano

P.S.:Pics takes from internet and the original ebay listing.

Anyway I would rather buy a Delta Journal pen (for the price of 130.00 usd) rather than a new Conway Stewart (costing 400.00 usd) which is the same pen essentially. But I R espect opposite opinions.

Cheers

The lady running that ebay account will happily tell you all about Conway Stewart America (based in Italy) if you ask her. That's what I did. She's the lady I bought a few of the old Omas rods from. She's very nice.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
