Can't read it, but it looks neat!.

It is a pretty pen. I have one, but have not yet inked it up.

How would the writing quality compare with a pen like the Sailor Naginata Togi, which nib is designed for Asian characters?

Normal fountain pens just only for normal writting.

Sailor Naginata Togi is designed for calligraphy to mimic traditional Chinese brush.

Certainly I got a Sailor Naginata Togi,too.

Hi,

I really liked the Waterman Audace when I had one. I had the Enchanted Garden. One thing about Watermans with the gold-plated steel nibs is that they seem to be more susceptible to corrosion than the plain steel nibs in my experience. I have seen a good number of Waterman pens with the gold plated steel nibs with some pitting or corrosion. One ink that I recommend you avoid is anything containing the Allura Red dye. That would be Pelikan Brilliant Red and Diamine Orange for instance. That seems to be really aggressive in my experience and more likely to corrode those nibs than many other inks.

The Sailor nib is very pretty. My Watermans are older pens and the gold nibs behave differently. In fact they're all different from each other, but I haven't had corrosion problems. It might be worth seeking out a vintage one.

I find the gold plated section rings on modern Waterman pens also corrode horribly easily. It can be cleaned up a bit with a microfibre cloth, but it's never going to look great. Did Waterman use a different process for their gold plating from other pen manufacturers, I wonder?

Too many pens, too little time!

It may be that because gold is very inert that a redox reaction will take place if the plating is slightly damaged. The gold will catalyse the oxidation in the steel part.

In plain steel nibs there is no gold to catalyse.

That picture of the Chinese script is fantastic. I saw it when OP first posted it, and then it remained impressed in my mind. Had to dig around the net with Google to find it once again

Congrats, op!

That was something that someone posed many years ago as a possible explanation. I wouldn't doubt if it were true. I think the affected pen was a Waterman Phileas.

Long, long ago, they told me in chemistry class that combining certain precious metals in jewellery is not a good idea. I think this is the same. In fact, the combination gold-steel-ink will work as a sort of battery.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
