Dearest Visitors & Members of the little Fountain Pen Nut house on the digital prairie,

Please welcome our latest addition to the team, the great lapis!

He will concern himself mostly with the Ink Reviews Index, working in tandem with saskia_madding, and providing a helping hand mostly in the Inky forums.

Triple cheers for lapis!

Warmest regards, Wim

Well how kind of you, Wim! Thanks for this very warm welcome. I never would have looked here if you didn't say so in the Cave!!

The first ink's on the house cave!!!

Hey Mike, good to have you around for the wet stuff.

One advice: a scotch-brite pad with dishwashing soap works well in removing the ink stains from your hands.

For ink stains in clothes, try soaking the stain in milk/cream.

Actually, what I find works best for cleaning ink stained hands without using any abrasives :), is washing one's hair. All gone in less than 2 minutes (with my mostly lack of hair anyway ;)).

Warm regards, Wim

Thanks for those very practical "habits", too. As far as the shampoo is concerned, I remember hearing that quite often here, so I'm sure it works. But I've not yet even tried it out. I think if I did, my wife would ask me if I'm feeling sick. If my hands (or shirts) never had ink on them, people would ask me if something had gone wrong....

I am wearing latex gloves these days when working on nibs etc., as by now it occasionally upsets my alter ego if I have inky hands etc. a little too often, at the wrong time and wrong place ;).

Well, that solution leaves me out.

Well, that's true. too and "Okay, I'll admit it" but I often use dispensable medical latex gloves but sometimes to keep my nibs and inks clean (like after having worked out in the garden or cooking roast turkey) . Since years now, I wash everything in the kitchen sink. My wooden floor and old oak desk have something against inks. But I can understand them.

Mike, glad to see you here and great work on indexing ink reviews.

Or you get interesting coloured hair ... :)

Thanks for taking on the job of keeping order!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Thanks, everybody. Keeping the INDEX OF INK REVIEWS up to date is my first love, a bit of a continuous chore but a lot of fun and something which I think a few ink collectors don't mind using.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
