The Impossible Pen - Modern/snap-Cap/piston/demo

Yes, Flounder is right - sorry for being so picky... But this is a grail pen we're looking for after all.

Ac12, that is exactly my pb with the Conid Minimalistica: here we have a mid-weight pen, with a ton of ink, that hangs on 2c o-ring :-(. On the other hand, never had any incident or concern with the Lamy 2000, CP1, or Vista, or even the Faber Castell Ondoro...

UDog, I completely agree - and I like the faux-antique look. No click action on the cap though...

AC12, BTW, do you have a better method of carrying? I don't think I'll start wearing shirts with pockets... Have you seen a better way? Pant pockets are a big no-no... And even if it's not a fountain pen, where do you put them if it's not between the buttons??

The Visconti Van Gogh Crystal Maxi is a modern, minimalistic and light weight pen that is about the same size as an M800. I have one and it's fantastic. They're a bit hard to find though. It uses a piston converter and has their magnet cap (which I like a lot).

There was a clever pen sleeve someone made a whiles back, it buttoned to one of your shirt button holes (or was the other way around, had a slot for one of your shirt buttons). Sort of like a pen-sock. That would probably help a good deal.

This would be awesome, I'll have to see if I can make one.

Went to Harrolds today and took a close look at these 2:

Visconti Michelangelo back to black:

To me it's a bit small and the body "feels" plasticy. but this one has that great magnet cap!

Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age Black (I'm told it's all new):

To me it's a bit big, but lighter than expected. It has the great 1/4-turn mechanism. I tried and you can definitely open it with one hand. - wondering if that ever springs open unintentionally under the shirt, e.g., when pushes against something...

I had never spent much time with the Italians, in part because the clip always looked so big, but in person the design was very pleasing and balanced.

Don't need it. The fit is perfect.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
