New J Herbin 1670 Anniversary Caroube De Chypre Ink

I wasn't originally interested in a red-brown, but just purchased two brown pens, so I may end up picking this one up. For those that don't like sparkle or shimmer, the particles in the J. Herbin 1670 inks settle quite a bit. If you fill your pen without shaking the bottle first, you will probably end up with little if any sparkle. If you really like the color but for the sparkle, give a sample a shot after letting it settle (though it may be harder with a sample than with a bottle).

Good observation/idea, can't believe I didn't think of that!

I like the sound of this colour and look forward to seeing samples.

From the name it sounds like a dark brown with a bit of a red tone, I'm always interested in J Herbin inks since I use a few, although I'm not into the whole disco inks... But it's great if others like that!

I agree

I enjoy the posts that display good penmanship and capture the sheen/sparkle of those inks.

They are just too artsy-fartsy for me, and I wouldn´t know what I´d use it for, or in which pen.

I bought Emerald of Chivor when it was released because of the spectacular Pictures in these forums, but I never opened it.

Maybe I´ll be tempted enough one day and be dazzled by it. You never know :)

It is ALWAYS a pleasure to meet a new Brown ink, glitter or not!

#1 Don't think I've ever met a brown ink I didn't like.

Thank you for the news! I'm always excited to see the yearly 1670 inks and what people will do with it.

I'll come up with something eventually.

This sounds like an ink I would enjoy if it weren't for the sparkles (I feel similarly about EOC). Odds are there will be another ink out there with similar color and properties without the gold dust that costs less. Either way I'm excited to see it.

Yup, you never know, it might just be swell, sparkles and all. In all honesty there comes a point I'm just grateful ink flows well, I've had a devil of a time getting Orange Indien to get a long with a Lamy Vista (the pen's fault), and Yama Guri just "decided" to come out more like a grey than a dark brown in its new pen, a Muji that always plays along. But I think I like it all the same!

I just wish they provided the glittery bits in a separate container, so one could use the ink both with and without bling.

THAT is sheer genius. Yes.

I wonder if the Goulet's are already working on a video, photos and samples of this ink... At first glance I think I'll pass this one, but truth be told that the photo of the written sample is not very good.

Oh, that does look like a very nice color, doesn't it. I was sort of hoping it would be something I wouldn't want.... :wallbash:

If you don't like glitter (that would be me), but like the color of these inks, just don't shake the bottle before filling your pen.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

^You are so smot! Really, that is the perfect way to solve the problem, so I do mean that sincerely. I do fill up on Rouge Hematite occasionally not shaken, and it is a glorious red by itself.

I'm hoping a nice photo surfaces. I think it will be nice, looks like there's some sheen?

Loving it, definitely going to get it. I actually do not like the colour brown at all but some brown inks really look lovely on cream or white paper. Look forward to using this one especially for letters and cards.

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

I have Stormy Grey that'll probably sit in my drawer until it expires. What a shame, since I'm scared to use it in any of my pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
