Need Help To Identify The Model Number

Dear all,

My friend found a Montblanc pen from her husband’s collectibles but the receipt was lost. She thought it’s a valuable item so she gave me as a gift to celebrate my promotion. However, I’m completely new to fountain pen and the only thing I know is that it's a Meisterstuck series as it is engraved on the body. I've tried google but the information are quite confusing. I would be really grateful if you can give me some hints, like it’s model number of this pen…

Length of the pen: 13.5cm

There's a sticker saying "Germany M"

Pen nip says:
4810

14k

MONTBLANC

585

The top of the cap says:
GB203046

Thank you very much!

Gwen

I have seen 144s sell for around $300.00. I have one and just use a good quality fountain pen ink and or order a bottle of Mont blanc ink. No drawing India ink as that could ruin it.

The Vintage MB 144, piston filler NOT the converter (1950s) would worth round $ 300.-,

Couple of days on Ebay a 144 piston filler was sold at $ 292.00

Regular modern 144 would never get $ 300.-

This is my personal opinion.

Thank you very much for your information! I'm now getting excited with this gift :D Yes it has never been used. I've noticed that beside the serial number, it is engraved "W.-Germany". After some googling, I guess it's from the 90s. :)

Just one more stupid question, now I have this piston converter, I can buy a bottle of ink and that use the pen. Is it that I can also "plug in" the ink cartridge directly into the pen without using this piston converter?

In your opinion, would cheap ink cartridge damage the pen? (Cuz I've got some ink cartridges on hand and would like to try this beautiful pen out.)

Sorry to ask so many questions and thank you so much for your advice!

Any modern international standard ink cartridge should do jess fine. You can't use the proprietary ones but any standard international cartridge should fit.

You can use your cartridges in your pen unless they are from Parker, Aurora, Sheaffer, Cross, Lamy, Pilot, Sailor, or Platinum.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
