You lucky devil you...

I tend to do the same with my not-so-good mixes, but so far have not come close to your result.

Enjoy and gloat a little. Maybe try to report what approximately went into that 250ml...

Oh my, let me think . . . and a look at the empties

Well, a lot of Diamine. Apologies Diamine fans.

Original Blue Black as I never got on with it and only ever used it for mixes. Same with Diamine Syrah. I'd say a fair bit of Emerald, Eclipse and Midnight as well.

R&K's Alt Bordeaux is in there too, together with Verdigris (the former's red to cancel the latter's green was often used in my search for Blue Black heaven.)

Loads of C d A Infinite Grey to dull things down (waaay to pale and green for me - bought it at 1/2 price so not too wasteful)

Visconti Blue, Blue Velvet and the mis labelled Noodler's LCR (which I think is plain old Noodlers Blue) all tend to help spice a Blue Black mix up so there's loads of them in it.

The Lemon Jif experiment gave me courage to make up another massive mix up. B) B)

This time, Noodler's 54th (yep, finally lost my patience with it) my Dollar Black and the last of my Diamine Blue Black (1/3 of each was the ratio)

"$54BB" - looks surprisingly similar to Lemon Jif but nowhere near as nice to use. The 54th has done it's "magic" and glooped everything up. Great in my Noodlers Charlie pen but I won't let it near anything else.

Thanks, Believe it or not I get the message. Or some sort of message. Since I do not have most of those you mention (but I do have enough others) I will continue with my Random blue mix (also pretty dark, and I don't even remember what went in, little bits of things) with the general idea to balance reds against greens and enough blue to make a blue black... Yes, for all those mixes that I end up not using, I think they will end up in a similar random mix... for instance with those PPS clone wannabes that did not make the grade. Back to the mixing sink... New weekend project! :D

I gave up on brown mixes when I realised couldn't alchemise Parker Penman Mocha no matter what I did.

Since blue is by far my favorite color, my random mixes will mostly turn out blue.. or bluish.

Even my dregs bottle - everything I get tired of in a pen gets dumped there - has blue undertones. But since I don't easily get tired of blue, not too many end up there...

So, what is the ink?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
