Weren't these debuted two years ago? Why are they showing up again now? Also, I thought they were more expensive than their normal Meisterstück counterparts, not the same.

~ @Valdair

Two weeks ago I asked at a Beijing Montblanc boutique to replace one nib for another, long after the original purpose purchase.

I understood that it would be necessary to pay a full nib replacement fee.

As the 149 nib in question was a 90th Anniversary, I supposed that the replacement nib would be in rose gold but not 90th Anniversary, given the elapsed time.

However, two days ago I received a text message from the highly competent and helpful China World Trade Center boutique sales representative that the replacement nib would, in fact be 90th Anniversary.

Such unexpected positive news brought a smile.

Therefore the news and links you've thoughtfully posted above are further corroboration that 90th Anniversary nibs remain available, to one degree or another.

Hi Tom. MB keeps a stash of nibs for most pens, even limited and special editions. As late as 2014 I has a 75th anniversary LE 1924 146 that had a nib swap with a brand new rose gold 75th anniversary nib.

Product shows as unavailable for me, but I bet you can still get one from MB new.

They seem to keep some products in the store even when they are sold out. I have noticed this with the inks especially.

~ Hi, zaddick!

Thanks so much for letting me know that.

I didn't realize that and the boutique staff was somewhat uncertain, although optimistic.

It's very good to know, although I have no present plans for any more nib exchanges.

There are three Meisterstücks now out for nib exchanges.

When they return, I may present handwriting samples from one or two of them.

I really appreciate this information.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
