I just saw a bottle of this on E bay at $125... is there a reason this is so expensive? Are they withholding it like the Gandhi ink? Will more be forth coming? Is it that expensive in Europe too? Why is this post all questions? Why not?

It is a LE ink and costed me 14.50 Euros at the beginning of February. I had to wait until the boutique was stocked and they then said that after running out, they'd have to order new bottles of it but how and when would remain unknown. That's so until this day AFAIK. Pricewise, that's okay, and normal for those LEs in those bottles, just like Daniel Defoe and Balzac were. Best thing is to phone a boutique and ask them what they say and if possible, get them to place 1 or more (?) aside for you and then phone you when they arrive.

There shouldn't be any excuse for the suggested increased sale price. I just checked La Couronne du Comte & found it "in stock" & US price $13.82. I ordered mine there but wanted to make sure it was still available @ this time. I suspect it is merely the age old reason for most price increases: "Because they can!"

I love the ink BUT it is surely "not the GANDHI nor the INK OF JOY," & I will always feel that such inflated prices are just attempts to "price gouge." I remember reading a poster here say in reference to (perhaps Mb's "Racing Green?) another listing @ an inflated price, that she "wished his ink would SPOIL!" I will always remember that..........& be thankful I have had an opportunity to purchase inks (many discontinued ones) from sellers @ realistic & fair prices.

Just of note, though I tried to buy from La Couronne du Comte they just got back to me and it's out of stock.

Well Montblanc's LE inks started to rise after they run out of regular supply. But I agreed with Barkingpig, its not the Ink of Joy. There are usually similar alternatives to those inks, and personally I think some of it ain't worth the skyrocketed price.

If it weren't for the high shipping costs in my country, I'd give mine away for free.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
