Introduction + Pen Pal Request

Let me introduce me to this forum: My name is Jesse, Dutch, male, 45 years old, happily married, daughters.

I work with computers every day, but all of my private hobbies and interests have always been more analogue in nature: cycling, camping, reading, writing, listening to and playing music (mainly classical and jazz) and photography (yes, both digital and film). We also host visitors a lot through Couchsurfing and WarmShowersList. Keeps us in touch with the world outside the Netherkands better than just reading the papers.

About a year ago I started keeping a journal and I've been at it every day since. I found to my surprise I love writing. For me writing is like a mental coredump. Very relaxing and it helps streamlining my thoughts and ideas. I also enjoy putting to use some nice pens and ink. I have always loved stationary.

Lately I also took to writing letters to some friends (I even wrote a love letter to my wife, since I realized she never got one from me ☺).

I'd love to write more letters, and perhaps even receive some, but the thing is: I ran out of potential recipients who would appreciate it.

I see this question coming up quite frequently, but I haven't found a conclusive solution, so here goes: If there are other people who'd like to send letters, I will appreciate recieving them and I will reply (though admittedly not always the same day ☺).

I know: send and thy will recieve, so if anyone thinks I'd be a nice person to recieve a letter from, just send a pb and I will write.

For the record, I'm a native Dutch speaker, but can also write and read (in descending order of ability) English, German, Polish and even Esperanto.

You can also look for the Letter Exchange Badges that people have.

You mean those cutesy little snails and mailboxes you see underneath some members posts mean someone is potentially up for a new penpal?

Hello and welcome from Wales.

Have you tried www.postcrossing.com - I discovered it a few years ago when I wasn't having any luck finding good penpals - did you know that the Dutch postal service have issued a second set of stamps celebrating Postcrossing?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
