I wonder y Kaweco is not upping the ante by reintroducing the old pens with piston mechanism and gold nibs...

I wonder y Kaweco is not upping the ante by reintroducing the old pens with piston mechanism and gold nibs...

Kaweco has a long & storied history.  So is my reply.

This day & age it would be difficult to find craftsmen who could manufacture pens like the old Kaweco pistons models.  But even if it could be done, these pens would be at a price that few of us Kaweco enthusiasts would be willing to pay.

I believe that Kaweco's present models are not aimed at the top-tier pen market.  This manufacturer's emphasis seems to be on quality pens aimed at the mid-range market with only a few expensive options (gold nibs being one) & making pens that are cartridge-only or C/C fillers.

What Kaweco now offers are pens that have some of the convenience & classic elements of older models.  Modern Kawecos are well made & are excellent value for the money.  This is why I enjoy using two of them.

I love the vintage Kaweco pistons & would buy one in a heart beat,  however I neither have the mechanical expertise nor the courage to take these old babies apart.  Regularly sending them out for refurbishment or repair would prove too troublesome & expensive an option.

Just this year I had the privilege to handle (& write with) a number of these fine early Kawecos form the 30s & 40s.  I was amazed by their finish, their precision, their Deco designs & their wonderfully smooth 14c nibs.

Finally,  both of my Kaweco 14K stubs have been completed.

The BB stub (top) is set up for very dry inks like Pelikan 4001 Blue/Black.  The B stub (below) is adjusted to handle a wider variety of inks.  Both nibs write about a 0.6 mm. to .07 mm. line which is perfect for a smallish script on APICA workbooks (lined 6.5 mm).

These two modern Dia2s are my cartridge-only DC pens.  I'm extremely satisfied with Pendletons's stubs & highly recommend his nib services.

(Sorry,  but the lens I used had a very limited depth of field.  Not all is in as sharp a focus as I'd like. )

Somehow I've missed this great topic...

I have a Colleg at home, will post; and three of the Sport Classics you've seen a lot of.  Here is my new pen:  A 5826, otherwise unidentified and not rarely seen.  This one is plastic or resin (just got it, still getting to know it), 1950's.  It's the pattern and the nib I love, and why this one may just stay with me.  The view window is blue, and it has Pelikan Konigsblau ink so is doubly blue.

Congrats on your new pen. Nice pattern and the nib is quite interesting.

I had seen this fascinating thread but did not follow it as I should;

I have some Kaweco and the information here has improved so much that I thought this is the right place to show this Kaweco prototype.

Complete as in the first image it measures 19 cm and the just the safety with the cap on is 11.3 cm

I do not think it was ever produced but as shown.

More information is always welcomed…

KAWECO Helios. Isn`t there a barrel imprint? Wrong nib IMHO.

Very nice pen. Who told you that it is a prototype?

Kind Regards, Thomas

Thomas

When I bought it I was told it was a prototype and I assumed it is since the larger cap does not seem to have any real function; it looks like an extension for a desk pen (I have seen many German pens with an extension to use it as desk pen).

There is no imprint on the barrel

I have two other Kaweco in the same material. One has an imprint Kaweco in the barrel and the other one Helios 696, almost identical except for their imprints.

The feed are the same but the nibs of these two are Garantiert Kaweco Pallad.

I appreciate your feedback
