Pen Posse In Santa Cruz - Sat. April 23

We usually do one pen posse a year here in Santa Cruz at Peyton Street Pens. It's a great chance to lure our Bay Area compadres down the coast to our sleepy little university town. We encourage people to bring pens to sell or trade, it's all good!

This year we have set it for Saturday April 23. Here's the official invite with details.

We'll open the doors around 1pm and start shooing everyone out around 6pm. Food, drink and Marianne's ice cream will be served starting around 2pm.

We don't have a retail store, but we do have a nice workshop where you can try pens, spill ink, tweak nibs, find a converter, etc. We'll have a wide variety of Ranga and PSP-Ranga models to see in person, and we'll offer a bit of a discount over our regular prices. We're putting together a really nice selection of vintage flex.

We usually have a few bins of fixer-uppers ....

Hope to see you this Saturday!

We tried this once and gave up because of dense traffic, but: I'd be happy to meet ac12 at the San Mateo Caltrain station at some stipulated time, and see about getting to Santa Cruz by automobile.

Considering that I live in San Francisco, it would be more elegant if someone driving from San Francisco offered me a lift, but I don't know what the prospects are. It can seem to be a long drive from San Francisco.

Jerome,

Take train 428, leaving SF at 11:15, it stops at Hillsdale at 11:57. Same place as the last time. Do NOT get off at the San Mateo station, that is 2 stops too soon.

I will be picking up another rider, then will go to the Hillsdale station to pick you up. Wait by the station building.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
