Review Of Jinhao "om Ganesha" Pen

This pen was bought on impulse as soon as it appeared on the website of ASA Pens. The pen arrived within three days of ordering and that speaks volumes of Mr Subramaniam's efficiency.

The pen is made of white metal with the "OM" symbol embossed on the cap and a beautiful image of "GANESHA" embossed on the body. The workmanship on the pen is very good. The Clip is golden in colour which ends in a teardrop and secures tightly in your pocket. The only place where the name JINHAO is embossed is on the ring of the cap. The cap is a snap on cap and fits tightly.

The pen cannot be posted due to the embossing on the body and has good balance when you write unposted. Being a metal pen this cannot be used as an eyedropper and comes with a converter which holds about 1.5 ml of ink.

The nib is a beautiful two tone and is 18k gold plated. The nib writes smoothly but with a hint of feedback but this is a minor glitch for a beautiful pen.

This pen is pure eye candy and if anyone wants to buy a pen with a different look this is the pen go for.

Attached are a few pictures of the pen. post-125326-0-25284000-1461087224_thumb.jpgpost-125326-0-44871700-1461087295_thumb.jpgpost-125326-0-43227400-1461087361_thumb.jpgpost-125326-0-77330600-1461087457_thumb.jpgpost-125326-0-05602800-1461087535_thumb.jpgpost-125326-0-24660200-1461088080_thumb.jpg

This pen could not be legally sold in Germany, due to the swastika, despite that in this case it is a religious rather than a political-ethnic symbol.

It "might" be a problem in Israel too!

Nice review...I gave serious thought of buying this....but backed out mostly because metal pens feel uncomfortable while writing for long durations.....at least for me....

It doesn't seem possible that that converter holds so much ink, 1.5ml is piston filler territory.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
