I'm no expert, but I have looked at a fair number of early 19th-century letters and what it looks like is an individual's hand based somewhat on English roundhand of the time. The person had a very handsome hand, no doubt, but the forms and the angle and proportions are not terribly different from what you see in contemporary letters in England and the US. There has always been a wide range within individuals' personal handwriting that didn't fit in well with established "schools" of penmanship.

But then, what do I know?
