First Pictures Of My Vibrant Blue

My 805 Vibrant Blue just arrived and I paused to take a few shots before I ink it up.

Here it is next to a few other 800 size Pelikans. L to R they are Stresemann, Vibrant Blue, Grand Place, and Tortoise.

The beautiful blue is similar in color to the Aurora Mare from some years ago. The Mare is just a bit brighter. I attribute this to the fact that it is opaque and has a slightly larger flake pattern. The Pelikan Vibrant Blue is quite translucent when held to the light which allows the ink level to be readily seen. It is interesting that the Mare has gold trim while the Vibrant Blue uses rhodium.

My big question now is whether to ink with Kon Peki or Parker Penman Sapphire!

Thanks for looking and reading!

Beautiful pen which I can thoroughly appreciate! Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it in good health. It just isn't "me" and your pictures have confirmed that I was correct not to purchase it for my own use.

Lovely! Now if only I hadn't just acquired a Grand Place! Can't justify another such expenditure in such a short space of time.

Lovely flock Whichwatch! :)

Would you mind posting a picture when you have filled the vibrant blue? I am interested to see how this affects the "look" of the pen.

Great pics. Can't away for mine to arrive. Thanks for sharing.

Well, it is indeed "vibrant." When I saw the first couple of pics, I thought, "Gee, that looks like .. that Aurora .... " I just could not remember the name "Mare." But then you made the comparison of the two.

I hope you enjoy the pen. I would also like to see a pic of the pen when you fill it to see how the color might be impacted.

Here are two pair of photos I took to illustrate the difference between the pen filled and empty. Bear in mind that my photographic abilities amount to "point and shoot", in this case with an I Phone. I tried to take them in quick succession, so lighting would be the same. The ink is Iroshizuku Kon Peki, which is not the darkest blue, but is similar in color to the pen.

Congratulations on such a gorgeous pen! Someday I would love to own a Pelikan. For now, I have to be content to watch the rest of you!

Beautiful. Looks better in your photos than in most of the promotional shots I saw pre-release.

I particularly like the view next to the Aurora. Wouldn't have thought they were so close in color. Now you have me reconsidering the Vibrant Blue, hmmm...

Best Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

I was fortunate to see that pen in person last night at our local pen shop (Vanness in Little Rock). It is gorgeous in person and I was tempted to buy it but my credit card is smoldering right now from buying 2 M800s. It has to cool down for a few months.

Gorgeous photos, whichwatch! I especially like the pictures of the light streaming through the pen. It makes it look even more 'vibrant' :) I also like how the pen looks with ink in it; gives it some more variation. On another topic, I wish the M600 Vibrant green had the same crystal/marbelized pattern--the pattern on mine really looks like the surface of a planet or something.

If you could use the little green box to load your pictures, it could be I'd be able to see them. When I click on and it takes over six seconds and still no picture. I close it down.

Bo Bo, I do use the green box. Not sure what the problem is.

If you PM me with your email, I'd be happy to send the pictures to you.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
