Quiz: Why Is Xfountainpens Calling A 159 A 530?

I just a had a 'phone conversation with the folks at XFountainpens and was told that the X350 has not been in stock for over a year. No explanation was given for representing, on their web site, a 159 as an X350. However, I was assured that the problem would be corrected. When I asked how those who has ordered the supposed X350 would be compensated, I received an evasive answer. Make of this what you will.

I checked their site and as promised, it was corrected. There is now a 159 pictured and referred to as such.

Don't I get a sample of the pen to understand where I've gone astray? :lticaptd:

I still do not have an answer, but you have changed the subject to ashtrays ! Why ?

To hold the ashes as this thread goes down in flames?

I guess I don't really need that consolation prize. I already have a 159 here. . . if I can get some help to lift it up onto the desk.

THE WINNER IS k3eax

I am pleased to announce that I am the winner! The judge, that's me, determined that my explanation, based on information obtained in a 'phone call to XFountainpens, correctly answered the question.

Thanks to those who participated with the hope that you'll better know in the future not to enter any contest that I oversee.

Is "k3eax" a cryptogram for "x350"??

I chose to make a small origami crane and a tableau depicting William Friese-Greene's pioneering experiments with moving pictures.

Nah...you got it all wrong; it has to do with sacred numbers.

1+5+9=15, 1+5=6

whereas 5+3+0=8 which is the most sacred number in the cult of The Spaghetti Monster, also know as "The Wet Noodle Worshipers"

No. . . the trauma all belonged to the Marks & Spencer bag. It didn't know if it was to hold clothing or groceries. The groceries, however, would probably have lasted longer than the clothing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
