Sorry but your reply, even though it shows that you too are a great observer of the marketing of pens, cannot be accepted as an answer enabling you to go to the next quiz plateau. You may wish to try again after a wait of 24-hours.

They only show one and didn't want it to be lonely, so they gave it a 500 number to be a big brother to the 599. :D

Very nice effort Richila. It's obvious from your answer that you have no "insider information" provided by xFountainpens! Your answer will be presented in due time to our panel of carefully selected and quite biased judges.

Someone at xfountainpens visited London in their youth and suffered some terrible humiliation on the open platform of a no.159 bus halfway down Regent Street, and as a result they now can't bear to even see that number. Whereas they have fond memories of getting up at 5.30am to listen to the dawn chorus.

This quite possible Grainweevil. I personally am aware of a fellow American, who while carrying a bag marked Marks and Spencer, was ridiculed by fellow passengers clad in their bespoke clothes.

Your entry will of course be submitted in writing to the panel consisting mostly of dyslexics.

k3eax, you are having entirely too much fun judging these entries. ;)

Albert - They probably got a letter from the "owners" of the trademark "149" advising them that too many people might confuse 159 with 149, so they must cease and desist from using any combination that includes both 1 and 9.

Steve OM, your answer has caused me to create a new award category. You are now leading in that category, "Worst Possible Answer".

Mr. Lee, you are obviously a confederate of said vendor having been euchred into placing a comment on this site in the belief that we would fall for your contention that a Jinhao X350 really exists!. Shame!

Extensive research by our vast Aid to the Gullible Department has failed to find any evidence to support the existence of a X350.

Your entry will of course not be accepted and please do not attempt to enter again under a false name

Gadzooks! A Jinhao 530 really does exist! We've just fired our entire Research Department for failing to discover its existence.

It would seem that Jinhao created the 350 by replacing the 159's cap with another that just exudes that restrained and understated styling for which Chinese pens are known. The nib too seems a bit upscale as well.

Mr. Lee we grudgingly award you the Grand Prize! When our now absconded panel of judges can be located, they will be asked to inform you of the nature of the prize.

Gads man, you're asking for a consolation prize! And to accommodate your request we are, as soon as our awards committee masters the Mandarin language, sending a request to Jinhao's CEO to provide an X530 to be sent to you.

Since it has now been establishes that there really does exist a Jinhao X530, why is the pen pictured on XFountainpen's site actually, and without a doubt, a 159? A comparison with pen in the second link, an actual X530, link will make it immediately clear that XFountainpens has pictured an ordinary 159. What's going on here? If you order the pen, just what will be received, a 159 or X530?

The person submitting the correct answer will be eligible to proceed to the next quiz-plateau whose question is open to submission.

Cannot be 159. 159 cap not post.

It is a clever ruse to get you to think 'they' (xfountainpens...even the name is a giveaway! and their confederates) are calling a 159 a 530.

I have not been here. You did not read this.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
