Has anyone see these type of Sheaffer vintage feeds before (see image below)? If so, how to you insert them into the pen section with the metal tube in the back? Does the metal tube and the large bulge it's attached to come/screw off? Thanks in advance.

These feeds are for the Sheaffer Sylist pens. An exploded view of the assembly is below.

 

The nib screws onto the mount (the nibs can be a pain to remove, so I put a loose one above), the feed is set into the mount and lined up with the nib. There is a flat rubber doughnut seal that goes around the piercing tube (yellow in this picture), and then the whole assembly is screwed into the section.

 

The seal is necessary to keep the ink from flowing back up around the piercing tube into the barrel. The yellow ones like the one shown have hardened with age. Sheaffer later switched to a softer, gray neoprene seal. I have no idea how old they are, but they're still very soft.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
