this is cross verve pen.

don't know the exact finish name.

this particular model came with steel as well as 18 kt gold nib.

your's look like steel... but just to be sure check if the nib has a 18kt mark

Yes, Cross Verve. This one has a steel nib. The gold nib only came to the Platinum and Merlot versions.

I believe this one is named Golden Shimmer.

The Verve is, IMHO, one of the best Cross FPs. There are some drawbacks.

You can't just shove it in your breast pocket, you will have to squeeze the top end which will open up the spring action clip, but the grip is not tight.

Also the cap does not sit very tight on the body., so after some vigorous movements the pen may loosen in your breast pocket.

But it is a great pen to write with.

Thank you!

I love writing with it, but get horrendous nib creep and sometimes leaking when in my bag.

BTW, I did not know that it had a clip. I assumed that the clip was sacrificed for a sleek design.

Are you using it with cartridges or with the converter? (nibcreep)

A bit of nibcreep is always possible, and oftne the result of yanking off the cap with the nib downwards. Try holding it nib up while uncapping and do it gently. Just loosen the cap for a few millimeters, wait a second to let the airpressure equalise and then lift off the cap.

Leakages may be because of a wrong seated converter or cartridge, or because of converter failure (leakage at the piston.)

And you need the amber coloured screw-seated converter. (The Townsend needs the green push-seated converter)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
