Replica Montblanc 139 "full Demonstrator"

Hi all!

I couldn't resist.....

After making my first "semi demonstrator" I've made a full MB139 demonstrator replica in natural transparent cast acrylic, below a few pictures.

Advantage being one can see the successive movements of the telescopic filler system and see the friction clutch in the filling knob working !

Since the fixation threads of the filling knob are left hand, first thing i had to do is making me a left hand tap.

This worked out rather well, so the first hurdle as taken successfully.

Given acrylic is more brittle compared to hard rubber , I've made a few improvements to the piston housing and made a new type brass collar.

The original brass collar mounted inside on the piston housing - which features the bended secondary anti rotation finger ,sliding in the lengthwise slot of the guiding bushing - was replaced by a thicker ring featuring a small transversal screw which goes through a bore in the piston housing collar and provides axial guidance in the lengthwise slot of the guiding bushing.

Doing so the brass ring is radially and axially secured.

In the original design there is a small collar on the piston housing which snaps behind the ring to hold the ring axially in place.

No problem with a hard rubber housing which is somewhat flexible , but delicate with acrylic, which is far more brittle.

This approach is also more maintenance friendly, by screwing the screw 1 mm out one can slide the guiding bushing out

I've also installed my "replica" logo in the cap top ,being a white triangle in a black hard rubber ring.

This logo will always be installed on replicas I make for my personal collection.

Being a protected trade mark.I don't want to use the MB star.

Francis

Beautiful!

What is written on the cap ring?

Did you make all the parts - or are some of them Montblanc salvage?

Tremendous work, as usual.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks CS 388.

I've used the original MB clip, nib, feed, cap rings and filler mechanism.

Making these myself is beyond my machining possibilities !

Note the filler does mechanism not has to be necessarily an 139, any 138, 136, 134 or even 132 filler can be used.

Amazing! I've always thought a 138/139 demonstrator would be perfect for drawing.

Awesome work!

Great work as usual Francis. Thank you for sharing it with us here.

I think you can also use the telescoping piston from the 14X series. Is that correct?

Thank you all for your friendly comments !

@ zaddick :

Sure , alternatively any 14X telescopic filler could be used, but then the filling system becomes slightly different.

The internal design of the piston housing and the filling knob will be different.

In fact this approach is technically even better since one would use the latest telescopic design version MB used, which is much more maintenance friendly !

Only - IMHO small - drawback being originality : this design was never used on 13X pens……

Very nice, Francis!

But then, I don't expect anything less from you ;).

It's no Conid Bulkfiller, but I guess it will work as a pen. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
