Red - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Carmel
  4. Denim
  5. Forest Green
  6. Forget-me-not Blue
  7. Lover's Red
  8. Ivy Green
  9. Midnight Blue
  10. Moss Green
  11. Oyster Grey
  12. Peacock Blue
  13. Pecan
  14. Red
  15. Violet

Papier Plume's Red isn't most interesting red on the market. It leans toward pink and is rather pale.

Thank you for the nice review. I agree with you. This isn't the best red.

Seems more than a little on the pink-y side.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Thanks for the review.

This is one I can definitely pass on -- the color is like a cross between De Atramentis Document Red (which I hated) and De Atramentis Dante Alighieri/Ruby Red (which I like and have, and think I would definitely like better than this one.

The one time I was in the Big Easy, I was going to Restaurant Depot. Period.

I'd love to go down there someday when I am NOT dealing with running a food booth and on a really tight timeframe.... And this would be an added bonus. But it's unlikely anytime soon. :(

Oh great, now I'm going to be earworming the song "Old Bourbon" for the rest of the day.... :crybaby:

I saw on their site that they will mix an ink color for you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have what they are calling Cherry-Red, which look very, very much like their "just plain red" in the "reviews." Cherry-Red is not listed, but Lover's Red is, which is a very dark red. It seems to me that there are only two Reds ----- One they call just Red, ---which is believe is the same as Cherry-Red, ---- and Lover's Red. ----- Cherry-Red does not now appear on their site, unless I missed it.

What is going on here?

Only a guess, but I'm thinking they took red and renamed it Cherry Red.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
