Moss Green - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Carmel
  4. Denim
  5. Forest Green
  6. Forget-me-not Blue
  7. Lover's Red
  8. Ivy Green
  9. Midnight Blue
  10. Moss Green
  11. Oyster Grey
  12. Peacock Blue
  13. Pecan
  14. Red
  15. Violet

Moss Green is wonderfully complex shade of brownish green. When I write the wet line looks more brown than green but after drying it turns into murky green. I like this one a lot.

This looks like a really nice ink. From the swab on the white paper, it looks a bit more yellow than Diamine Safari, but greener than Diamine Wagner. A very nice colour!

Thanks for bringing Papier Plume to our attention - I think that more than one of their inks will join my collection.

Nice review of an aptly named, beautiful ink. The comparison to the other greens is very useful.

Beautiful!!! I love murky greens. Now, I will have to investigate this company in New Orleans. Maybe a field trip is in order.

I knew you would love this one, Vis!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Great review! But this definitely is not the color for me.

Lovely colour, I may have to investigate further. I tried to purchase the MB Defoe when I bought my WE fountain pen but it was unavailable. Currently I am using the Diamine Safari but this also looks a good option as an alternative albeit a little browner

I purchased this ink on a trip to NOLA a few months back, and I like it a lot. Thanks for the ink comparisons-- very helpful.

I prefer Robert Oster's Moss green ink. I feel it captures the freshness of moss, whereas the Papier Plume version looks like the moss has died. :(

There's nothing to investigate

I was there last December and it's a great store. Worth the trip

Another green was their Street Car Green named after the green street car that will take you on a wonderful trip to the end-of-the-line through New Orleans. There is also a red street car

Stay in the French Quarter

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
