I picked the exact same pen up in mint condition last month for £8.50.

I think this seller is off their tree and trying to fund the purchase of a ladder.

I saw one the other day - a Lady Sheaffer I think - said "Excellent condition" and it looked like the nib had been removed with a hammer. Section just ripped to bits. I wish I'd have saved a copy, it was priceless :-)

Not sure if you'll be able to see this. £50 - excellent condition (needs new nib unit) ..,

Well it did say "diver coloured band not tested" although I am not sure what a diver coloured band is.

And did you notice that the pen has waving (not Waverly) nib? :lticaptd: :lticaptd: :lticaptd: :lticaptd: :lticaptd:

Whatever section-ravaging condition 'welcome2stay's' Lady Sheaffer has, it appears to be catching:

The bomb-damaged Lady Shaeffer is the same in both auctions. Welcome2Stay is the seller in both sales. Amazingly, the seller has 100% buyer satisfaction from over 3000 sales. Unbelievable!

Cheers,

David.

Yay for optimistic eBay descriptions! Nothing says "nice condition" like a nib reaching for the sky, or 'working order' like a squeeze converter missing its sac. Form an orderly queue!

Oh, that one photo of the nib was just painful....

And I thought the Emerald Pearl Vac I returned to the seller had a bad nib....

I saw a listing not too long ago that offered a pen in "Excellent condition" with tines that hadn't visited each other in many years. Perhaps it's a new definition of the word.

Perhaps the sellers cannot get their heads around the notion that the buyers might actually want to write with their pens.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
