Correct Name For A Patrician

CBNina

Recommended Posts

I have the Red Patrician and was wondering what the correct name is - I have seen Man 100 Patrician, Le Man Patricia. Sad that I must part with the pen as it is very beautiful. Plan to sell on Ebay unless you have a better idea. The nib is M 30.

For me a Man 100 is always so beautiful :)
This one is the Man 100 Patrician Cardinal (official name in the Waterman catalogue in English version). It's one of the three Patrician marketed between 1992 and 1998 what explained the nib of the third generation.
If you can keep it, keep it

If you are going to sell it on e-bay, be certain that you do not confuse it with the original Patrician.

I'm sorry to be flippant, but every time I see this thread, I think that the proper name for a Patrician should be something like "Claudius Maximus".

  • 1 year later...

I think many people get the Man 100 Patrician confused with the Le Man 100. The original pen was called the Patrician.

The Man 100 Patrician was a special edition styled on the famous waterman classic of the 1930's. It was sold in an

unusual and original teak wood box. The photo below shows a Man 100 on top of the wood box that it came in. Notice

the filigree band on the cap? Very unique and an easy way to tell the Man 100 Patrician from the Le Man 100.

The difference between the original Patrician and the Man 100 Patrician is that the original had a lever style filing

mechanism. The Man 100 Patrician uses cartridges or a converter.

I must be missing something then cos those that I have looked at have very little in common other than a similar cap band.

Here is probably the most comprehensive place for modern Man data,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
