Hey all,

 

my name is Nate and I'm an amateur fountain pen enthusiast, and calligrapher. I'm still very new to everything and would love your help getting further into the art. I have a full set of Pilot parallel pens that I love, and a hand made wooden fountain pen that a friend made for me as a gift, as well as a set of dip nibs.

 

One of my biggest questions is how or if I can change the nib on my fountain pen? I know nothing of the brand or size as it was made as a gift.

 

I have a bottle of Parker Quink that my friend gave me with my pen and was wondering if it will work in my parallel pens or will it clog the receiver, if I can't use it what ink would you suggest? (or more so what ink should I avoid on a functional level, since ink is such a personal preference)

Folks that make kit pens could probably suggest a way to get a new nib, check the turning subforum.

 

Quink is a great ink and should be just fine for the Parallel pens.

Quink is fountain pen ink, and is suitable for any fountain pen. Use ONLY fountain pen inks in your fountain pens !

 

Not all nibs are removable. Gather as much information as you can, in preparation for those who know to help you. They are on the way.

I recently moved from Columbus Ohio to Miami Florida. I also just recently joined! Welcome.

 

Some manufacturer's make it super easy to swap out nibs. Others do not.

Hi from Marysville, OH. It's always good to see a fellow Buckeye join this forum. If you post a photo of then pen whose nib you're trying to change, we may be able to better direct you (photos are ALWAYS helpful!).

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while...

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
