Problems Posting New M600

I bought my first Pelikan M600 from a well regarded Italian dealer on eBay (Martemodena) and it came promptly and well packaged. But the cap is ridiculously loose when I try to post it, and if I hold the pen for a few seconds with it posted it will fall off. The seller was responsive to my first email and said they've never encountered this problem before and asked for photos. I sent photos, and offered to send a video but haven't yet heard back. It's the weekend, so I'm not taking the lag time to heart -- they seem like a really good company. But in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem? Any ideas what might cause it?

I bought that same pen from them about a month ago. Great service, I think I had to wait over a weekend, but other than that, no issues. I have used it quite frequently, until I sent the broad nib out for regrind to a CI, but never had a problem posting. My only thought is with a new toy, you don't want to ruin it on your first day, so maybe you're just being to gentle? I am merely surmising, but I know I have to post my Pelikan a little firmer than my 146. But no issues with the same pen and same company. Which is also not saying you don't have a problem either, just I haven't.

I can't say that I have ever encountered a problem posting a Souverän and I post all of my pens. My experience is that the caps post very securely. Are you sure that you're just not being too ginger about it being that the pen is new and all? I can certainly understand that impulse. These pens are known to post very well and aside from a crack in the cap which should be obvious, I have no good explanation for why it wouldn't stay put other than it just hasn't been pushed down far enough. Good luck getting it sorted out.

I actually also remember that I found it difficult to post the cap securely on my m600 when I first got it about two years ago. But that was probably because I was overly cautious with it, now I don't have a problem with it anymore (and I usually use it posted).

I had the same problem with my M600 when I first purchased it, then I realised I was being to gentle with it. When you post it make sure you apply a reasonable amount of pressure, you will feel it post into place.

Hi, your post prompted me to double check, I just recently got new M600 and it posts well, even with moderate pressure. The cap stays put even after placing the pen on a desk, the cap did not move.

Hope you'll find a solution... This does not seem to be a serial issue with M600.

Thank you all so much for your input -- and you guys were exactly right, I was being too cautious with my new (and for me, most expensive) pen. Simply pushing harder solved the issue. Slightly embarrassed but mostly very relieved. Also want to say that I'm really impressed with the customer service offered by Martemodena.

I just got an M600 and had the same issue, so this thread has been very helpful - thanks!

 

A follow-up question: does posting damage the threads in the cap? As far as I can tell, the threads in the cap are what grips the barrel (not the piston knob) when posted. Its so tight that I cant help but feel posting is going to flatten the threads over time and make it harder to thread the cap onto the section.

There was a time when folks before the cheap Chinese pens came on, bought cheaper used/vintage/semi-vintage pens. They learned how to polish them to a better condition, and to wax them to prevent a re-occourance of mars.

I've not seen a how to polish my pen thread in ages

 

 

Not that I had much or any problems with Pelikans in the polish department, but other pens. Shine cloths have come in more, than the 'old days'. Pelikan's are not of course immune. I was just lucky it appears.

I realize this thread is quite old so thanks for coming back and replying! Im not really worried about blemishes on the pen due to posting. My main concern is that the cap threads are being friction fit on the barrel so tightly that it feels like it may damage them. Im guessing this concern is unfounded as I cant find anyone else talking about this, but Ive never had a pen that posted this tightly before! I dont post my M805 but when I try it, it doesnt require any oomph to get the cap to stick to the pen.

Ok, I was about to post about my new Snowy Owl being a loose poster but I found this post instead.

 

This is a M605 White but unlike the progressive tightening post of my clear M200, this M605 is definitely a binary poster.

 

It feels wrong but I can push harder and get a strong clench in about 0 to 2 mms I can hear the cellulose acetate wailing in agony

 

Nevertheless, thank you for the thread and reassurance, I too hope this data point helps a future M600 owner.
