Pink - Pelikan 4001®

The 4001 ink is a well-established brand by Pelikan from the very first beginning of the company. It was first mentioned in a price-list from 1897 and proved its worth within all the years. Ink 4001 was registered as a number only, during years there was plenty of colors on the market. However in recent years the line didn't change at all. Happily Pelikan decided to invest not only in Edelstein line but also in 4001 (much cheaper) line and introduced new ink (Dark Green) in january 2016. You may find it interesting that Pelikan 4001 are the only inks that can be bought practically in every B&M store in Poland.

At the moment the line consists of

  1. Blue - Black
  2. Brilliant Black
  3. Brilliant Brown
  4. Brilliant Green
  5. Brilliant Red
  6. Dark Green
  7. Pink (cartridges only)
  8. Royal Blue
  9. Turquoise
  10. Violet
Pink can be bought only in cartridges. As I dislike pink I won't try to describe the color. The inks behaves pretty well though.

Comparison

(there was an accident - a bottle of Pelikan Brilliant Brown fell to the floor. It took me a while to clean it from the floor and furniture but I won't be able to clean it form the paper. There were some other pinks / magentas on this page but now they're covered in a layer of brown ink)

Not bad. I don't like pinks at all but still have a few, like this one, even if only to make sure that I have all colours of a company. Perverser yet, is that a few pinks are only available in cartridges... It may be its violetness which makes me not hate it as much as other pinks.

Great ink - except for the color.

Actually, this looks really nice; unlike Charles, I like pink. It's too bad it only comes in cartridges -- I don't really have any pens that take International Standard cartridges (which is the same problem I have with the nice little tin of Edelstein Amethyst carts that I got in September at the Pelikan Hub).

Thanks for the review, even though this is something I probably will never be able to use.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Um, yes. Or rather no. Yuck. Perhaps the bottle of Brilliant Brown was trying to do us a favour... An exceedingly useful review for what, in my case, not to buy! Thank you.

I have this one, although I not quite often use it, still its a nice pink ink. I think its more vivid than J. Herbin Rose Tendresse.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
