Brown Pens Suggestions Please

I'd love to grab one of those Visconti Van Gogh Pollard Willows (I already have 3 of the other Van Goghs) but sadly, it's a limited edition and they're all gone now. So it's look for a new one or live without it.

ArchiMark, your collection is simply amazing!

I'd be happy to have 3 or 4 of those (the only one I have is the Elemento). They are all stunning, but I'm particularly struck by the Churchill's, both the original and the Scriptorium version, and the Decoband. Trouble is, after seeing these pictures I found a mint Churchill... Gotta start saving :).

Thank you for your kind words.......

FWIW, all the pens except for one have been obtained since about June 2009....so, has grown over time.....

Love the feel of the Churchill shape in my hand....just feels very comfortable and natural fit.......

The Elemento and Decobands are great pens too....

Good luck getting a Churchill!

Keep saving your pennies and nickels.....

The brown Room in Arles has been and gone, but the Pollard Willows is still available.

There's also a limited run "125th anniversary" model with rose gold trim and bronze nib that's available from a few retailers. This LE has ALL of the Van Gogh color combinations, including those yet to be released as a regular edition. IMO the brownish colors of the Pollard Willows and Room in Arles look even better in the LE than they did in the original color scheme.

About the Visconti Van Gogh / Music Hall / Salvador Dali:

They all look gorgeous, and fit right in my price range (max 250 euros) so I consider them

But the only drawback I have is the nib;

It's 'just' a steel nib. Anyone has experience with them?

Are they smooth?

The Parker vintage browns are nice too. These are my current in use ones.

Oh, and I forgot: the original Grand Place from Pelikan. The most beautiful brown pen...(the 2nd from below)

If you don't mind a mix of colours, the Pelikan La Crème is a beautiful pen. It's one of the few that I bought purely

because of it's looks. The Delta Fusion 82 in brown is a beauty, too.

  • 6 months later...

I just bought a Conklin Sleeve Filler in the limited edition Brown that I'm very excited for from ebay. #30 of 98! The seller listed another one today though, the #1!! Unfortunately/fortunately, my pen shipped today also so it saves me being picky and asking the seller to switch mine out for the #1. Sure would be cool though.

Here's the link for anyone else interested:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
