Sailor Kobe #3 Kyuu-Kyoryuuchi "old Foreigner's Ward Sepia"

There have been a number of reviews of the Sailor Nagasawa Kobe line of inks, most recently by visvamitra showcasing the whole line.

Starting with #1

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/299898-sailor-kobe-01-rokko-green/?p=3497945

And his review of #3

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/299024-sailor-kobe-3-old-foreigner-ward-sepia/?p=3485273

The usual test papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, Hij=Hammermill 28lb inkjet, TR=Tomoe River.

Unfortunately the iPhone seems to not understand dark brown, and always thinks "black". It is so wrong. I've fiddled with the settings to no avail.

Anyway, this is a wonderful, yummy ink.

Surprisingly with some water resistance.

And as always with Sailor custom inks, a very interesting chromatography.

Thank you for another wonderful review of a Sailor ink I love. I think of it not as a "Sepia" but as one of the "stealth" inks (dark enough to be confused with a "black," but more interesting) in the category of Sailor's BungBox "Ink of the Witch." It is just a wonderful ink as your review shows.

Yes, it doesn't seem like what we might call sepia today. It would be interesting to know more of the history, maybe the foreigner's in the Old Foreigner's Ward make their ink differently.

But still a great ink.

Thanks for the review.

I was about to complain that you were going to make me add this to the "want list". But then I discovered it was already on there.... B)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I don't have that Noodler's ink, so I can't offer a comparison.

Nice review, thanks. From your writing sample it looks like this is a fairly wet, free flowing ink, is that correct?

Thank you for this awesome review! This is one of my favorite brows, along with Sailor Doyou, Sailor Bung Box Espresso. All three are similar, but each is unique in some way.

Sailor Do-you is superb.

Love the chromatography. The far-right chroma looks like a bungalow with an attached tool shed.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
